ELEMENTITY - Earth, Water, Wind and Fire within us.

Elementity

Personality test for self-knowledge and teambuildning.

A course concept and a personality test based on the ancient symbolism of The Four Elements have been developed within PsykosyntesForum. The concept behind these products is called Elementity ("Element Identity") and is based on Carl Jung's personality typology (Thinker/Feeler, Intuiting/Sensing, Introvert/Extrovert, Perceive/Judge).

Elementity is used by us in team development in work places, in couching for couples and in individual coaching. In certain situations a typology can be a useful map of reality, but it is also important to remember that a typology is a crude model of the human psyche, a model that never more than schematically can describe our complex nature.

Sixteen different combinations

A typical personality can be described as being dominated by one or two of the elements. In more rare cases, a personality can be described as having a balance between all elements. In the concept of Elementity we have chosen to make a description based on the combination of two elements, in order to reduce the number of possible combinations to a practical level. This gives a typology based on sixteen main personality types (the types dominated by one element have been denoted as having two of this element):

Earth-Water (13%), Earth-Earth (6%), Earth-Fire (5%), Earth-Wind (1%),
Water-Water (13%), Water-Earth (6%), Water-Wind (5%), Water-Fire (1%),
Wind-Fire (13%), Wind-Water (13%), Wind-Earth (6%), Wind-Wind (6%),
Fire-Fire (5%), Fire-Wind (5%), Fire-Earth (1%), Fire-Water (1%).

The percentage numbers describe how the different personality types are distributed in a typical western culture. This data is taken from scientific research documents spanning over a period of several decades of using the Myers-Briggs test, a common test for the Jungian typology.

Subpersonalitites

Subpersonalities are often very different

As is described in the page Subpersonalities, our personality in most cases is built up by a number of different parts, subpersonalities. The Elementity for one subpersonality may differ from another.

When taking the Elementity test, it is therefore recommended that you first decide which subpersonality you want to test, and to consciously identify with it (by going back to memories of being in it and to associate with these memories).
When purchasing the Elementity test, you will be able to do the test as many times you want, thus you will be able to assess the Elementity of many of your sub-personalities. If you do this, it may be valuable to select two dominant subpersonalities that form a "dipole", i.e. have very differing core beliefs and basic needs.

As the Elementity test can be repeated, it may also be used by couples, to assess personality differences that may affect the relationship.
